The Taranto Grottaglie Airport is nowadays a European infrastructure for research and development of new aeronautical solutions, focusing on its role as an asset of Apulian industrial excellence in the aerospace industry. Thanks to its favorable logistical technologies, and its high-tech equipment like the computerized flight corridor for unmanned aircrafts, it is constantly attracting international productions and scientific research centers.
An infrastructural project was recently launched for the expansion of the airport, taking into account the needs of the industrial partners involved in this ambitious plant program, and in line with the Apulian Aerospace Technological District programming. The Grottaglie aerospace cluster is emerging among Italian districts for its excellent achievements and the high level of productions, and it is strongly supported by the Regional Administration as part of an integrated set of values.
Based on the strategic importance that aviation industry research and experimentation play in Italy, the National Plan of Airports has ranked the airport of Taranto Grottaglie as of national interest hub, acting as an integrated logistics platform in supporting research and industrial development.
